What is the highest AP credit? ›

AP tests are scored on a scale from 1 (low) to 5 (high). Get a 4 or higher, and you may be able to earn college credit without paying college tuition! Whether you just got your AP scores back or are considering taking an AP class, here's everything you need to know about AP scores.

Credit/No-Credit Grade

A maximum of 25 percent of a student's hours of Grand Valley courses earned to fulfill graduation requirements may be taken on a credit/no-credit basis (credit = C or above for undergraduate courses, credit = B or above for graduate courses).

You'll usually need 120 credits to get a bachelor's degree. Many colleges offer credit for AP scores. Suppose you earn a 4 on your AP Biology Exam, and your college grants you 8 credits for that score. That means you walk into your college with 8 credits under your belt—before you even take your first class there.

A grade of "C-" or below with the Credit/No Credit results in NO credits for that course. A grade of "C- or D" though not ideal is still a passing grade AND keeps credits.

If your school offers a wide selection of AP classes and other students are taking many more, 7 APs might be considered below average. However, if your school only offers a limited number of AP courses, then 7 would be seen as impressive.

The college board AP study prep books really help with these exams, because the guidelines for testing are clearcut and students are told what topics will be covered. If you manage to take 11 AP classes throughout your high school stay, that's enough (33 credits on average) to skip a whole year of college.

For undergraduate students, the maximum number of credit hours is 20 per semester. For graduate students, the maximum number of credits hours is 15 per semester.

Do AP credits expire? ›

Universities should not deny any student appropriate credit for an AP exam score earned within the past ten years. If the AP exam score is older than ten years, your university may request that you submit a more recent score.
