What makes Homemade Honey Butter Croissants so good?
Cheddar’s Honey Butter Croissants have to be one of my favorite menu items at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. Why? They are warm and flaky, and they are drizzled with honey butter.
I promise hot buttery croissants drizzled with honey butter taste like manna from heaven. Or at least these warm honey butter croissants are what I hope manna from heaven tastes like. I hope you enjoy this copycat recipe for Cheddars Honey Butter Croissants.
Why you should try this recipe?
If you are looking for a new idea on how to serve hot bread with your meal, this is the one idea you must try very soon. Croissants are buttery, flakey, and then when you add the honey butter sauce on top, it honestly doesn’t get any better than this!
About Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen
Cheddars, if you have never been there, is a fantastic restaurant. Cheddars restaurants have been around since 1979, serving over 10 million of the Cheddars honey butter croissants each year!
If you aren’t so lucky, you may not have a Cheddars within driving distance, but you can recreate these buttery croissants at home. It’s effortless to make this favorite menu item at home.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Frozen Croissants (unbaked dough)
- Honey
- Butter (salted or unsalted butter)
Ingredient and Recipe Notes
I don’t always recommend a product, but in this case, I will. What makes these so special is that they are croissants. They are not your ordinary quick bread often served at a restaurant. Croissants take time, they take a long time. I recommend buying frozen croissants.
You can find these at Trader Joe’s or even Sara Lee Frozen Croissants. Your store may carry another brand. You can use Pillsbury Crescent rolls, but keep in mind, while tasty, the Pillsbury Crescent rolls are not the same thing as authentic croissants.
It’s pretty easy to work with those frozen croissants, but you must defrost them for 6 to 7 hours before you bake them, so be warned. You can’t make this impromptu just before dinner.
How to Make Honey Butter Croissants
- Follow the package directions for thawing proofing the croissants. This will take about 6 to 7 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the croissants for about 15 minutes, or until they are fully puffed up and browned.
- While the croissants are baking, place the butter and honey in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Stir the butter and honey with a rubber spatula while the butter is melting.
- When the butter fully melts, remove the pan from the heat. Continue to stir the honey butter until ready to serve occasionally.
- When the croissants have finished baking, allow them to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before drizzling the warm honey butter sauce over the warm croissants.
How to Store, Freeze, and Reheat Croissants
Allow croissants to cool to room temperature before storing. This prevents condensation from forming inside the storage container, which can make the croissants soggy.
To prevent croissants from sticking together or becoming stale, wrap each croissant separately in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Place the wrapped croissants in an airtight container or plastic storage bag. Make sure there is enough space for the croissants to maintain their shape and avoid crushing them.
Store croissants in a cool, dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Croissants can be stored this way for up to two days.
For longer storage, freeze croissants: Place the individually wrapped croissants in a resealable freezer bag and gently press out any excess air before sealing. Place the freezer bag with croissants in a flat, level area of your freezer, ensuring other items do not crush them. Frozen croissants can be stored for up to two months. Thaw them at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
To reheat croissants, bake them in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5 to 10 minutes, or until warmed through and crisp on the outside.

I wasn’t sure where to get the frozen croissants because we do not have a Trader Joe’s. I bought the great value brand. For the quality, they were delicious. It was a very easy recipe and I will definitely make them again. : )Reply

Stephanie..can I freeze already baked, all butter croissants?

Yes, you can freeze all-butter croissants. Make sure the yare sealed in an air-tight container, make sure you squeeze out as much as you can. They taste best when consumed 2 months after they have been placed into the freezer.

Hi, we recently were on vacation and stopped for lunch at Wintzell’s Oyster House in Greenville, Alabama. I learned they have the best bread pudding EVER after my husband ordered it for dessert. It is the first bread pudding I’ve ever liked! They of course wouldn’t give me the recipe and I’ve searched the internet for a copycat recipe. I certainly hope you can help me find one because I will probably never be able to visit that restaurant again. Thanks!

I would love if you would do Cheddar’s grilled honey mustard chicken with button mushrooms over rice dish! Cause nothing I make at home ever tastes as awesome as theirs lol. Thanks!

Hi Stephanie, love your recipes!! When we’re at Cheddars we usually get the grilled salmon, which is delicious, but we’re always impressed with the rice it is served over. Do you think you’d consider copying that? It’s rare to find a great rice side????Stephanie
I will definitely keep it in mind.
