Henna brows are created by applying henna-based pigment to the eyebrows. Unlike traditional brow tint, henna dye is plant based and should stain eyebrow hair effectively for up to 6 weeks (regular brow tint lasts between 4-6 weeks). The henna used for henna brows is different to that used for body tattoos.
The type of henna used for henna brows is generally considered safe, but if you have eczema or psoriasis, or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you’re advised to steer clear of henna. You should also check if you’re allergic to the henna dye components by carrying out a patch test at least 24 hours before your henna brow appointment.You should also know that natural henna is brown or olive in colour; if you’re offered black henna avoid it. Black henna is chemically made and contains p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) which, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), can cause serious allergic reactions.
